Have you ever felt the weight of knowing it’s time to say goodbye? Legacy sessions with your dog offer a way to capture those final, fleeting moments, filled with love and heartbreak. They’re more than just photographs—they’re a last chance to hold onto the moments that matter most.
For me, as a dog photographer in Perth, these sessions are deeply personal. This was my first, and I truly will never forget it.
The sound of her voice on the phone that morning… filled with sadness, fear, urgency, panic. I could feel everything she was going through, just from her voice: she knew it was time. She asked so politely if I was free to capture some photos of just Alex on such short notice. I could hear her voice crack, and my heart shook.
In situations like this, you don’t think—you just do. You MAKE yourself free, so I told her I could be wherever she wanted me to be. Just a few hours later, I was at their home, because Alex was too weak to walk.
She didn’t want to be in the photos. She’d been crying for days and felt broken, inside and out. But I couldn’t let that be the reason. I told her not to worry about how she looked. These photos would be a legacy, for the whole family. I knew they all had to be in the photos. She needed to be in them.
I promised her I would capture them in their best light, showing how much love surrounded Alex. All that mattered was that they were together, for one last time.
The gravity of sessions like this hit me hard. This wasn’t just a photo session. It was love, life, devotion, and a connection that ran so deep, you could feel it. Every look, every touch—it’s what you hold onto when you can’t hold onto them anymore.
They followed my lead and we moved to a nearby park. The whole family was there, and it was a stunning Perth sunset. What we documented that beautiful evening was nothing short of magic.
I feel fortunate, blessed, and grateful to have been trusted to capture Alex’s last chapter. This beautiful little guy touched my heart at first sight, and I’ll never forget him.
Legacy sessions are the raw, unfiltered moments of love and connection. It’s the kind of love that doesn’t fade, even when you know you’re saying goodbye. Alex’s family now has these photos to hold onto—a permanent reminder of the joy and love he brought into their lives.
It’s not easy to step into moments like this, but it’s an honour. RIP, beautiful little Alex. You were so loved.
If you’re thinking about capturing a legacy of your own, please don’t hesitate to reach out. These sessions aren’t just about taking photos—they’re about holding onto the ones we love, even when we have to let them go.
